RTC’s artificial turf on the football field to be ready soon

Almost a decade after its establishment, Royal Thimphu College(RTC) is going to have an artificial turf on the football field. The students are highly excited for the launch of the new field.

Turfs for the football field

Tshering, a first year, Anthropology student said, “I was really excited when i saw those giant rolls of the artificial turfs near the football field last year(2018) but i felt sorry to know that the ground is still under construction and i am really hoping the ground will be completed soon as I am excited to play in the new field.”

Mr. Namgay Wangdi, a senior estate officer who is currently overseeing the construction said that Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) is going to pay for the construction of the ground and the cost may rise above Nu. 1,000,000. He also said that, ” As BOC will be paying for the construction of the ground, the progress and the completion time depends on them.”

Transport United as the champion of 2018 season

Transport United FC being crowned as champion of BOB national league 2018. The BOB league Final match was played on (date) at the very national stadium of Bhutan, Changlimithang, where Transport United played against Thimphu City.

The last matches of BOB National league were a very crucial match for all the four team, namely, Paro FC, Transport United FC, Ugyen Academy FC and Thimphu City FC as all these teams were separated with thin margin of point difference. PARO FC was on the top of table with 18 points and Ugyen Academy FC was 2nd with 17 points. On the other hand, Transport United FC was in the third position on the table with 16 points and Thimphu City FC in the fourth position with14 points.

For Thimphu City FC to secure the third position, It was a must win game. For Ugyen Academy FC and Paro FC to win the title, they just needed draw result. Whereas it was a must win match for Transport United FC to secure 1st.

However, at the end of the day, Ugyen Academy FC lost to Transport United FC with final score of 3-4, and Paro FC lost to Thimphu City FC with final score of 2-1. This resulted to the ultimate crowning of Transport United FC as the champion of BOB national league 2018 with 19 points. Paro FC became the first runner up with 18 points and Thimphu City FC secured the 3rd place with 17 points. Even though the points between Ugyen Academy FC and Transport United FC were same, due to goal differences Thimphu City FC finished 3^rd in the 2018 season. The BOB league-closing match was played on 4^th November at the national stadium of Bhutan, Changlimithang, where Paro FC played against Thimphu City FC.

Transport United players banned from playing next two matches.

Only a few days ago, a football match led to the controversial banning of four players. On Wednesday, Thimphu City FC played against Transport United. Four players from Transport United were banned. Earlier it was said that there was some kind of ‘manhandling’ between both the teams, where one of the members from Thimphu City became the victim. However, it was later learnt that the tiff was between Transport United and the referee, when the said team was not satisfied with the decision made by him. This led to the ban of four members for next two matches.

By the end, four of the team members from Transport United were banned from playing the next two matches. One member from Thimphu City FC was also given red card after double yellow. First yellow card was issued when he violated the rule by wearing a mask while celebrating his goal, and the second yellow was given to him for being involved in the heated situation, where they said even he was ‘manhandling’.

Mipham Chophel Jigme, one of the members of Thimphu City FC and also a member of Bhutan National Football team, shared that his passion for football dates back to his childhood. His journey to the Bhutan National Football team started after he got trained at Ugyen Academy, after which he joined the Ugyen Academy Football Club.

Since then, his focus was on football. When he was in class 11, he joined Bhutan National Football team. However, he could not play any match because he was not willing to compromise his education.
This year, he left his previous club and joined Thimphu City FC. His recent international game was with Bangladesh.
Mipham plays in the defence position and wears jersey number 99 for his club. He wears 4 for the national team.

A Bhutanese CR7 fanboy on ‘Ballon d’Or 2018’

The much-awaited Ballon d’Or Award will be revealed on December 3 and the list of players who have been nominated is creating excitement among fans.

19-year old Kuenzang Dorji pursuing Bsc. Environmental Management in first year in Royal Thimphu College shares his views about the ballon d’Or 2018. He says “ Cristiano Ronaldo is G.O.A.T. (Greatest of all time)”. He believes that the Juventus Striker is likely to make a streak of 3 consecutive win of ballon d’Or by winning the award this year. He believes that Ronaldo, who made his big move from the Spanish football club Real Madrid to Italian Club Juventus this summer is in a great form by scoring 4 goals in 8 appearances.

Portugal star, winner of 5 ballon d’Or Cristiano Ronaldo and another five time ballon d’Or winner Argentine star Lionel Messi are included in the 30-men list as always. FIFA Golden Ball winner Lucas Modric is also in the list. 19-year old French prodigy Kylian Mbappe is also nominated after winning the FIFA world cup 2018 in Russia.

This year’s list of nomination is mixture prominent figures which leaves the fans with the question, can the rising stars like Mo Salah, Neymar Junior, Anotonio Griezmann stop the dominance of Leo Messi and CR7 over taking home the award.

These awards are given by France Football, French football magazine. It is given to the male player deemed to have performed the best in the previous year based on voting by football journalists.The nominees for the award are selected by France Football, where they nominate 30 players, while the voting is done by group of international journalists and only one vote is counted from each country.

Smart Phones, smarter than Desktops and Laptops?

A Smartphone is more user friendly, when compared to a desktop or a laptop.

Smart phones are the mini and portable version of laptops and desktops. Smart phones have proved to be versatile and user friendly at the same time. Smart phones contains almost all the apps that a computer or a laptop nowadays has. It can be apps related to their professions, example; Microsoft word, micro PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, or any other app that is used in their office or business. At the same time smart phones also supports other apps that are mainly there for entertainment purposes, such apps like; Sound Cloud, Music Player, video player and even some photo and video editing apps or software.

Even the price of a smart phone these days has lowered due to upcoming of multiple smart phone manufacturing companies, and without doubt we can say that a smart phone is much cheaper than the desktops and laptops. One may prefer using smart phone over desktops and laptops as smart phones have proved to be more user friendly when it comes to certain features like, the camera. Smart phones are enable with inbuilt camera with right amount or the enough amount of Megapixels to get a good picture (high quality pictures).

Whereas for desktops we have to buy camera separately and it is was too complicated for someone to click pictures in their laptop, just imagine someone trying to take picture

Football is Life

There may be a lot a criticism, but it is the stepping stone to success. This is what Sonam Tenzin, a formal youth national football player from Tashigang says. The 18-year-old Manchester United fan, who is currently playing for the Thimphu City FC Club went through a tough journey to reach where he is. “It wasn’t easy,” he says, and he tried his best to not give up. People would not hesitate to criticise him, even if he played one bad game. However, Tenzin took it in a positive way. In fact, it has helped him to get better atthe game, he says.

Passionate about the game, he feels that the sport is developing in the country, year after year. There has also been a rise in the number of talented players joining teams, which gives scope for tough competition. The game is getting more popular because of the growing number of artificial turfs in the country, he says.
